[OLUG] cat command

A week ago I was told the cat and  dd commands to tranfer my windows dir
in linux to a file for a future windows install so I wouldn't have to
reformat my hd  and lose linux in the process but I lost the file I
copied the command too.Could someone please refresh my memory?
