[OLUG] XFree86

compiling X from source is a long process, takes a LONG time to build.
I've found the problem with buliding X from source for me wasn't compiling
it, it was the problems it causes with debian's package system. dpkg told
me i had a 'crufty' filesystem. not to mention overwriting my xfree 4.0
with it's 3.x stuff. 4.0 is worth the upgrade if you run multihead (like
me), i havn't had a chance to put it on my new computer yet... but will
soon.

fyi, i just built a killer linux box, i'd recomend this config to anybody,
minus the scsi if you want to save a little.

BP6, 2x550 celery, 256M, G400 32M DH, 18G Ultra2, 2x scsi (mp3 cds), 17G
ide (windoze, audio/vid archive) 10x dvd, 2x burner (both ide), 19" sony,
17" generic, 10bt enet, awe64

i'm using an S3 virge DX for the second head since Xfree 4.0 doesn't
support g400 in dual head mode yet......

i just love the thing, the board cost me $120, and the chips from
step-thermodynamics.com guarenteed to 550 with coolers were $120 each
(worth it). speed on a budget with this board and a debian boot floppy.
