[OLUG] dependancy problems

I'm trying to install kpackage from my Rh cd, but it's giving dependancy
errors. One of them is: librpm.so.0
I found librpm, but it's librpm.a. What's the difference between these
two? Would I be able to use a .a file, or do I need them to be .so?
