[OLUG] SCSI problems

I'm  trying to recompiled the kernel on my ComPaq deskpro 6000.  I'm running
Red Hat 6.0 with a 2.2.5-15 kernel with a AIC7xxx driver that works fine.
But after reconpiling the kernel with the same SCSI driver when I boot the
system gives this error

Kernel panic: aic7xxx: AWATING_MSG for an SCB that does not have a waiting
message.

In swapper task - not syncing

and then it just hangs. Any ideas?
