I have The Java Tutorial, Second Edition by SunSoft. I have found it to
be a very good start for me personally. It assumes you have at least some
programming experience, but is helpful for even a novice programmer. For
the more experienced programmer, it gets into Swing, and things like
exception handling, network programming, Threading, and Applets. I also
have the O'reilly Java in a nutshell, which would work better for an
experienced programmer. If you're in Lincoln, your welcome to borrow
either of them for a few weeks to see if they meet your needs. They most
likely will sit on my shelf anyway until I have an itch I can't scratch
with Perl :-)
