Thanks to your replys I think I'm finally  making progress.After editing
my various ppp files numerous times (after backing up first of course)
I'm now getting part of my ppp-on-dialer showing up in
/var/log/messages:
Mar  9 14:33:54 jimbo pppd[1316]: pppd 2.3.10 started by root, uid 0
Mar  9 14:33:55 jimbo chat[1317]: timeout set to 60 seconds
Mar  9 14:33:55 jimbo chat[1317]: abort on (\nBUSY\r)
Mar  9 14:33:55 jimbo chat[1317]: abort on (\nNO ANSWER\r)
Mar  9 14:33:55 jimbo chat[1317]: abort on (\nRINGING\r\n\r\nRINGING\r)
Mar  9 14:33:55 jimbo chat[1317]: send (rAT^M)
Mar  9 14:33:55 jimbo chat[1317]: expect (OK)
Mar  9 14:34:55 jimbo chat[1317]: alarm
Mar  9 14:34:55 jimbo chat[1317]: send (+++)
Mar  9 14:34:55 jimbo chat[1317]: expect (OK)
Mar  9 14:35:55 jimbo chat[1317]: alarm
Mar  9 14:35:55 jimbo chat[1317]: Failed
Mar  9 14:35:55 jimbo pppd[1316]: Connect script failed
Mar  9 14:35:56 jimbo pppd[1316]: Exit.

    I also tried kppp and my modem is initializing now which is wasn't
before.Looking through the output in /var/log/messsages it appears
ppp-on-dialer isn't sending the connect command.I've carefully edited
/etc/ppp/ppp-on ...../etc/ppp/ppp-on-dialer and /etc/ppp/chat many times
trying it after I made each change with no luck.Being relatively new to
linux can someone tell me which file(s) to edit and what to possibly
look as far as the connect command?
