[olug] Strange GNOME issue

At home on my AMD K6-2 350 with 384 meg of ram the latest helix GNOME runs very sluggish.  The mouse "sticks" somtimes and everything is slow.  If I run KDE, WindowMaker or E, everything is fine.  I am running at 1280x1024 32bit color on a Viper550 card.

On my laptop running at 1024x768 at 16 bit color they both rock.  I'd rather be running GNOME at home than KDE, WindowMaker or E.  Any ideas?
