OK, here are my two cents..  If you can run X as root and not a user,
it's not your X configuration.  It's most likely to be a permissions
issue.  I'd have to dig through the Bastille documentation, but it will
change a lot of file permissions, especially removing suid root.  As for
your network problems, lets see the output from ping, netstat and
nslookup.

btw, you can scroll through your console history using <shift-pageup>
