I just find 3-button emulation annoying and have indulged myself with
the luxury of a 3-button mouse.  Also, I am currently using KDE under
Mandrake 7.0 on my laptop and have noticed that 3-button emulation using
the built-in 2-button mouse rather than the 3-button mouse that I plug
into the PS-2 port works for some things whereas it doesn't work for
others.  I just haven't cared enough to do anything about it.  Since
Gary mentioned that pushing both buttons simultaneously usually emulates
the middle button for him but that it isn't working with Netscape
Messenger, I was guessing that he is experiencing inconsistent behavior
similar to what I've experienced.  Of course, it wouldn't be terribly
surprizing if I was completely wrong.

BTW, some of the window managers for Mandrake 7.0 don't have 3 different
menus corresponding to the 3 different mouse buttons.  And KDE does but
that's one of the things that doesn't work when I use the built-in mouse
and emulate 3-buttons.  Cut and paste works with the 2-button mouse. 
Curiouser and curiouser...

Your tabbing issue sounds odd.  I'd have that checked. ;-)
