[olug] eth0 question

if pnp is disable you probably need to pass setting to module.  You can do that in the /etc/modules.conf file or /etc/conf.modules file.  You should have something that looks like this.  make surethe io is the correct value.
alias eth0 <module>
options module io=0x300
