[olug] making a.iso

Now that I got a cd-rw and a bigger HDD I'd like to make some iso's so I
can try different distros cheaply.I went to cdimage.debian.org and read
the way they'd  have me do it ,by downloading the Pseudo-Image Kit etc
etc.It sounds very complicated.Is that just the debian home page or is
everyplace that way?What I  mean is can't I just download a iso image
then burn it to disk or do I need to go the Pseudo-Image Kit way with
every distro?
