[olug] mounting my cd-rom

I get this error message when trying to mount my cd-rom with the mount
/mnt/cdrom command>>
mount: /dev/cdrom is not a valid block device......I had a regular
cd-rom on my computer but I just installed a cd-rw.Linux sees it at
bootup and the line corresponing to the cd-rom in /etc/fstab worked for
my old cd-rom so I'm assuming /etc/fstab  is ok.Any ideas what may be
wrong?
