[olug] monitor

I want to get a new monitor asap but I'd like to buy one that's
supported for obvious reasons,I've looked through the HOWTOs for a 
monitor HOWTO or even a video card HOWTO without being able to find
either one.Is there a HOWTO for those and am I looking in the right
area?
