I'll also vouch for Dotster. Until the end of the month (tomorrow!) you
can transfer a domain and renew for a year for $11.95. I transferred a
domain from Network Solutions to Dotster a couple of weeks ago and it was
totally painless.
It won't help OLUG, but for future reference, for $35 you can get a domain
name, email, and URL forwarding which means you can setup a site anywhere
and have your URL go there. Your URL opens a page on Dotster's server
which is nothing but a full-screen frame containing pages from anywhere
you want. It works fine except the URL in the brower's address window
never changes as a person clicks through your site and if they reload a
page they go back to the home page. Other than that it is great.
The point here is if you host one site somewhere, you can have many domain
names all feeding off that one site at no charge. Give each domain a
directory on your real site and have Dotster point the URL to that
directory. Your hosting company won't know you're doing this.
