[olug] Sound problem

Yes Jon I by sound effects I mean the qui sound events setup from control panel.  I did have the sound server setup but shut that down and it made no difference, excepts now the event sounds only play 1 time instead of repeating so I guess that's some progress.  When it boots is says OPL3 not detected FF.  And when I try to play a
wav file it says device not ready.  I primarily have been using gnome but have looked at KDE just have not switched desktops to that system.  Thanks again for the help you have been a big help.

If so than you have two options turn off sound server / route all sounds through the server.  I think you got your card working.  are you using KDE or Gnome?
