In 2.4.10 and the first few after that, yes; but many many bugs have
been fixed in both the ext3 and nfs code bases, which is why I suggested
the kernel update.

The main idea is to update to the lastest kernel that just happens to
have the latest set of bug fixes.

The VM in the standard kernel sucks.  Hence the patches :)  It's getting
better with each release, though. 

RH isn't using the standard VM either - RH, in their 2.4.9 kernels, uses
a more primitive predecessor to the rmap VM.
