That box belongs to the Millard Public Schools. I brought it in in the hopes that the great gods of Linux within the group could get something running on it. Right now it is just a heater for our offices when the monitor is on.
I was informed that RedHat 5.2 will run on it but I have been unable to even get that downloaded so that I can try to get it on CD. I was also informed that I would need to update the BIOS to make RedHat 5.2 work on it and I have been unable to accomplish that task as well. I am not very competent on a machine of that age or OS. To top it all off, time has been a precious commodity these days so playing has taken a backseat for now.

Hey OLUG Dudes,
I saw on the pictures of you last installfest what looked to be a DEC Alpha 3000 Model 900. Do any of you know if you can put Linux on this machine? My research group has a couple of them and currently they have Tru64 on them (Ugh).
It's my understanding that the TurboChannel bussing doesn't have drivers, but FreeBSD can be installed in console mode (I even flirted with trying to install FreeBSD on one of them, but chicken out at the point where I needed a serial console). Can Linux be installed on them in a similar manner? Is it worth the effort? I'd love to use one of these machines as a backup/file server (i.e. with Samba) but Tru64 just sucks...
Thanks,
Carl Lundstedt
