[olug] olug install fest - newbie howtos

for .tar.gz
    tar -xvzf filename.tar.gz
this expands it, then I move to the subdir and look for a README or INSTALL
or some such and follow the process from instructions listed there.

for rpms, building from source, someone else will probably be better.
