If your running the dhcpcd  client,  use the -n option to renew the lease.

If your using pump,  the -r releases the lease and the -R renews the lease.

In windows you can run 'ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew" to release
the ip address on a dhcp client.  what is the equivalent in the linux
world?
