Well, if you're going to mention home cooked stuff:
I did the window with a precut piece of plexiglass I got from ACE
hardware, I did the trim with automotive door and window trim from
CarQuest and for lighting I got a 110VAC strip of lights to go under my
desk from Hobby Lobby (I wouldn't recommend this for use inside the
case, they get quite warm).
If you want to do etching, I'd bet you could buy an etching 'kit' from
some place like Michaels or Hobby Lobby and grow your own etch
(Something like a radioactive symbol would be way easy.) Acid on
plexiglass with some sort of plastic cover will etch it, but I'd be
cautious using full strength acid.
The 12V 12" purple tube from Walmart is an excellent suggestion.
(I just couldn't see the point of 'buying' a case mod kit).
