That was my big question -- why a symlink that is so funky in
permissions?
And yes, /dev/dsp2 has weird permissions, too:
gideon root # ln -s /dev/sound/dsp /dev/dsp2
gideon root # l /dev/dsp2
lr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 14 November 20 10:36 /dev/dsp2 ->
/dev/sound/dsp
