Yep, QMail can do this, and quite easily. In fact, it's basically the
"default" setup.
Without going into a debate on which MTA is better, I doubt there are
many people who will claim that Sendmail is easier to configure, or more
secure, than QMail (Postfix, though I have limited familiarity with it,
can likely do this too, and like QMail, will most likely be easier to
configure and more secure than Sendmail).
Sendmail is complicated. No way around that. That very frequently
comes with being powerful, and Sendmail is that also. It can do some
things that few other mailers can do, and for many sites, it's exactly
what you need. Personally, I use QMail (I used Sendmail for a while,
then exim, then I had to learn QMail for a position I was holding, and I
got hooked. I've been using QMail happily ever since).
My personal opinion would be that, unless you need something that only
Sendmail can provide, QMail or Postfix is likely a better option for
you. Others may disagree, though.
