Course details are as follows:
CISSP Preparation Course
I. Course Description:
The focus of the course is on computer security. It encompasses all areas
of information security including:
1. Access Control Systems and Methodology
2. {Computer} Operations Security
3. Cryptography
4. Application and System Development
5. Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning
6. Telecommunications and Network Security
7. Security Architecture and Models
8. Physical Security
9. Security Management Practices
10. Law, Investigations & Ethics
These are the ten Common Body of Knowledge areas covered in the Certified
Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) exam, and while it is
not the intent of this course to teach this test, it is our intention to
cover the knowledge areas in sufficient detail that an otherwise qualified
individual could pass the exam.
II. Course Objectives/Outcomes:
Each student will acquire and be able to demonstrate:
1. a command of basic computer security terms and concepts.
2. a knowledge of computer security architectures and systems security.
3. a knowledge of security policy, standards, organizations, and publications.
4. a familiarity of physical and environmental security.
5. a working knowledge of risk management terms, concepts, and procedures.
6. a familiarity with computer security law, investigations and ethics.
7. a familiarity with computer applications and operations security.
8. a familiarity with computer cryptography (encryption) and telecommunications security.
III. The Instructor
Ed Markel was Certified as a CISSP by the ISC² in January 1996. He has
over 25 years experience in computer systems and 11 years experience in
computer systems security, including a 3-year assignment with the National
Security Agency. Mr. Markel has over 20 years experience teaching at the
college level, including a Computer Security course taught for Omaha's
College of St Mary.
