[olug] video file

I need some help please?  I, as of yesterday, have a new grandson and of 
course I have a video clip of the little guy at about 2 hrs old.
My problem is that the video camera (Canon ES8400V hi8) is an analog 
system.  Does anyone know how that I can get it converted to some kind 
of format that I can play on my computer?  The camera has an A/V out 
jack of course and I can play it on TV but I don't know how to make a 
digital file that I can use on the computer which is more Ideal.  Wish I 
could afford a digital camera.!
