[olug] UGH! fdisk help

I have a HD out of an OS dead Win98 machine with Fat32.  I have added to
another system to mount and get some scanned images of the little one
off of it but It won't mount.  I looked at dmesg to find out what the
device was (hdc).  I tried to mount it, no go.  I tried to fdisk -l it,
it says: unable to open /dev/hdc.  What am I missing??  This is a RH 8.0
system.  TIA!!
