QNX is a microkernel OS ; it is a posix based OS

real-time OS can have different meanings to different people... My
viewpoint --
an OS which can maintain a process in a constant "run" state ; that a
defined realtime process cannot be put into
a wait state by the OS, e.g. the OS should never block the process in
order to take care of other buisness, whether
the other buiseness is OS related or another application.

Unfortunately he is being blinded by marketing, win2k is not an rtos. QNX
is, I would recomend sticking with
it, QNX is very viable, and one of the leading rtos manufactures.

While linux/bsd would prove to be fruitful, it sounds like the application
developer has choosen a support path which is
flawed, fortunatly there sounds to be a non-M$ path.. hopefully they choose
it. sometimes you are driven by applications rather than reliability --
shity.
