The annual Infotec 2003 Conference and Exhibition is just around the
corner. For those of you not familiar with this event, it is a combination
exhibition/conference/trade show held each year in Omaha. This year,
Infotec will be held at the Holiday Inn convention center on 72nd and
Mercy in Omaha, NE. The event runs from April 7-9, 2003, with the
exhibition booths available April 8-9. The website is www.infotec.org and
the official brochure can be found at
www.infotec.org/brochures/infotec2003.pdf.
There is a section of the vendor show set aside for user groups. The last
few years, the OLUG has had a very good showing at Infotec and is always
one of the more popular user group booths. I will be at the booth as much
as I can over the the 8th and 9th, but I need some volunteers to help me.
The times for the booths are 10am - 6pm on Tuesday the 8th, and 10am - 3pm
on Wednesday the 9th. I will be giving a presentation on linux from 1:45
to 3:00 on Wednesday the 9th, but I will be at the booth all other times.
It has worked well in the past to have at
least 2 people at the booth at all times to handle inquiries.
The goal of our booth is the same as the goal of the OLUG - spread the
word about linux and answer any questions people may have. The layout of
our booths has been pretty much the same over the last couple of years:
- - a couple of systems running linux (desktop or laptop)
- - handouts on:
- Good linux websites
- A flyer for our next installfest
- - Mandrake CDs
- - Any other distro cds we want to hand out
There was some initial talk in the past about making Infotec a
mini-installfest, but that information didn't get into the brochure, so
we're not planning on that.
If you are interested in representing OLUG at the booth, let me know what
times you can be there, and I will set up a schedule. Of course, you are
all welcome to come and spend as much time as you want, I just want to
make sure we always have at least 2 people there if at all possible.
If you're interested in signing up for the various sessions that are being
offered, you can register online at
https://www.milestoneshows.com/infotec/Infotec_Conference_Registration_Form.htm.
The infotec show is also the time when my company, the AIM Institute,
holds it's anual banquet. If you're interested in attending this banquet,
you can sign up at http://www.aiminstitute.org/2/2/index.htm.
Hope to see you all there!
