The company I used to work for http://www.nceelabs.com was looking at
installing Exchange on their server so that they could get the benefits of
calendaring and address sharing.
The problems are:
Very little knowledge of server software.
Server supported by current staff.
Very little money for outside support.
Very little money for software.
The server is an IBM Dual PIII 733 with 512MB RAM and a hardware Raid
storage system. It has a tape backup from HP. Dual Power supply. 10/100
NIC. CDRom.
Used for:
DHCP of 30 machines.
Print server for 4 network printers and 1 network copier.
File server.
I figured the solution would be to put Linux on the machine to allow
HOWTOs for support. If they still couldn't figure it out/didn't have time
then I could step in or they could find a knowledgable college student to
help them out.
I know Linux can do all of their current functions because I already have
my home network set up to do this. I don't want to move them away from
Win2k on the desktop or Outlook. What I want is a cheaper/easier to
administrate alternative to Exchange that runs in Linux. I found
bynari.net which looks exactly like what I need. They also provide
support if all else fails and me/college student can't fix the problem.
What I don't know is how well it works. Has anybody here implemented a
bynari Insight solution? If not, what other solutions that allow
calendaring and address book sharing are available?
TIA
