And here's yet another possibility:
The October 2003 Linux Journal (Issue 114, pp. 46-50)
has an article "Bootable Restoration CDs with Mondo":
The cover tag says "Quick, reliable bare metal rescues".
http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=6808
The abstract:
"A quick way to restore from bare metal or
clone systems is to build a custom rescue CD image.
Here's how to automate the process and keep the
rescue CDs up to date."
Mondo Rescue homepage:
http://www.microwerks.net/~hugo/index.html
or
http://www.mondorescue.org/
From the Mondo home page:
"Relax. Mondo's got it covered."
"This is the home page of Mondo, the premier GPL'd
disaster recovery suite for Linux and Windows."
From their Documentation page:
"BTW, to restore, just boot from the emergency floppy/CD
and choose Nuke Mode to wipe and restore. If you prefer,
boot to Interactive Mode for a less drastic, more
user-friendly set of menus. Yes, it is that simple. :-)"
I had not heard of Mondo before despite the fact that
it is apparently included with several distros,
including Mandrake, Gentoo, Sorceror, Debian, and Knoppix:

I don't know whether this will help you now,
but I think it might help me in the future,
so thanks for asking your original question.
