If you get cloned screens then xinerama is not enabled,
if you `grep -i xiner /var/log/XF*.log`
do you get the following text returned?
(**) Option "Xinerama" "1"
(**) Xinerama: enabled
(II) Initializing built-in extension XINERAMA
