Then I still need a PC to connect to the Sun box(es) via the serial cable.
Not sure if just using console access is enough, and we purchased the Sun
keyboards & mice so we might as well use them...

Thanks for the console idea - a few people have mentioned it. I will try
to find a decent 'normal' PC KVM with PS2 & USB that is also powered.
