Yes, Samba 2.0 predates Win2k.  Samba 2.0 was released in (I think)
late 1997/early 1998, WAAAY back when Win2k was still refered as NT 5 in
the marketing literature ;)

I vaguely remember having problems with 2.0 talking to Win2k under some
circumstances.  Perhaps I'm not the only one that thinks you should
upgrade to at least 2.2.8a ;)

Some other possibilities:
  * File system ACLs on the directory are keeping you from seeing what
    you want (these are separate from the ACLs on the share)
  * The Win2k server is set to reject older versions of the
    authentication protocol (ie the administrator set it to only allow AD
    authentication, which is basically kerberos, or something along those
    lines)

First thing to do would be to double-check that you can get to 
everything from a Windows machine.  Second thing to do would be to 
upgrade Samba.

ethereal is a graphical packet sniffer and protocol analyzer.
