[olug] mystifying cable modem problem

-34dBm is higher than -54dBm.  0dBmW is 1mW.  0dBW is 1Watt.  If yours 
was -34dBm and Eric's were up at -13dBm it is possible that the input 
power is too high.  A friend of mine had that problem.  The amplifier 
for the neighborhood cable was in his backyard.  They had to install a 
10dB attenuator to knock the signal down.
