my first guess would be that you are experiencing a hardware problem that
surfaces during extreme activity.......
Has the machine been through a couple of passes through memtest and cpuburn?
If yes, have you verified that the IO path/others are not sharing IRQ
resources?
Which kernel/install media are you using?
