Ryan and others replied with notes of less than optimal speeds.  I have
another older system that is on the same switch with the ftp2.linder.org
system.  The switch between them is an un-manged d-link switch that says
both ports are at 100/Full and I had my linux boxes hard coding their
ports to 100/full.  When I did a download from the local machine it too
was maxing out at 350-400KB/sec when it should have been 10 times that
speed.  Using "ifconfig eth0" I was able to see that the FTP server eth0
was experiencing errors even with just my SSH session and no large
transfers.

I bumped it to 100/Half ("mii-tool -F 100baseTx-HD eth0") and the speed
went to 4.5MByte/second!

If anyone has held on this long, you can try the FTP again:
