FYI - here is the info email I just sent to the registrants we have so far.

Your registration for the OLUG Install fest January 2004


Welcome, and thank you for registering for the Omaha Linux User's Group
(OLUG) January Install fest. We look forward to meeting you this Saturday,
and assisting you with your fist steps in learning what Linux is all about
and can do for you.


Some notes on the Install fest:
- If you are looking for a dual boot system (and are not planning on using
the Mandrake distribution) you will need to have a hard drive for each
operating system, a copy of the commercial software package Partition
Magic, or we can help you use an open source application called QTParted.
QTParted is essentially an open source equivalent to Partition Magic.
Additionally, to save time it would be a good idea to run a full scandisk
and defrag on their Windows installation before bringing your computer to
the Install fest.

- We will have copies of the latest version of SUS E, and for those who
are bringing Apple systems we will have copies of the YellowDog Linux
distribution.

- If you are installing Linux on a Laptop,  you should review the web
sites that discuss Linux on portables & for your specific model. Some of
the best are listed in the OLUG web links area

other sites can be found by searching for 'linux laptop' in Google.

- There are enough OLUG members registered to help out for installs and
for troubleshooting problems & issues.  Remember that we have monitors,
keyboards, and mice already set up in the labs; all you have to bring is
your computer and any device you are having problems with (of course).

- If you will be bringing older hardware or a laptop, you should plan on
showing up as early as possible. The more time we have for the install or
to work issues the better.


If you need any more information or have questions, there is information
posted to the OLUG web site and you also have the OLUG mailing list. There
is also a ton of information and helpful sites on the Internet. Again, we
look forward to helping you with the beginnings of learning and using
