[olug] FAT, FAT23, VFAT mount in linux

i am trying to get to a fat formatted section on an old drive, i am using suse 9 that i got at the last installfest, i created a mount point and added it to the fstab, i get an error message stating that the kernel does not have fat support. does any one have a good reference on setting up fat, vfat support and how to tell if it is installed in the kernel.
