[olug] Gentoo mininal LiveCD fails to recognize NICS

I've downloaded the Gentoo Minimal Live CD (V 2004.1)to once again take a few 
hacks at a source based distro.  It fails to recognize the NIC on two of my 
older (MMX) machines.  net-setup also fails.  I'd suspect the MB/NiC combo, 
but one of these boxes already has gentoo 1.3 installed on it and sees the 
card.  Has anyone else run into this?
