[olug] alsa sound issue

OS:  SuSE 9.1
System:  Dell Dimension 4550, 2.8 GHz P4, 768MB RAM, Audigy 1 card.
Problem:  Whenever I start the system, the sound is gone.  When I su to 
root and run alsaconf it brings it back but I have to run it every 
time.  Whenever the X-server is restarted it does the same thing.
Install:  I installed everything that came with it so I don't know if 
OSS and alsa are conflicting or what.

Is there a setting I can change or a script I can run on startup to fix 
this?
