[olug] Fw: kmail ate my inbox

resending again, my local network nazi's have just started filtering my
outbound email traffic, in addition to my problems below.  can anyone help
and tell me something about how Kmail handles email, so that I can "undo
whatever it has done"?!  it's done it again btw...

... long time listener, first time posting (in awhile)   =)

Ok, I've been using Sylpheed/Sylpheed-Claws for like 4 years now which
uses the MH file format? for managing email, instead of mbox to my
understanding.  I clicked on an email link in Konqueror the other day,
which popped up Kmail - which I closed promptly - but upon exiting though,
I noticed it was configured to 'auto compact mail' and did that.  Ever
since my inbox mail in Sylpheed was 'unreadable' (but seeable) and now
just 'gone' from my inbox.  My other mail is still intact.

I can still see all the messages in Kmail, all duplicates actually, and
~/Mail/inbox still has all the mail messages. Does anyone have a
suggestion or test that I can do to make Sylpheed see all my mail again? 
I'm not completely  sure what all happened.

~/Mail/inbox has a bunch of files named like this:
1099787016.6036.DXzc7  along with my inbox folders
