rather than their political party buddies?

I couldn't agree more sometimes.  With all 'donations'
made to various political campaigns by industry groups
to get bills proposed that favor them, it really makes
me wonder who these politicans really work for.  I
could have sworn that democracies were supposed to get
everyone's voices heard...not just those with the most
money.
