[olug] Checking a hard drive while running a Live CD

Aside from dropping to a terminal and running fsck,
I'd be tempted to boot either from the hard drive
manufacturer's diagnostics cd, or grab the latest copy
of the Ultimate Boot CD and run something like GWSCAN.
