Has anyone come across a good package or library that provides Character
User Interface access to MySQL?

I am looking for ways to control the position text and input areas on the
screen like is done with Interactive Cobol and Progress input and output
screens with UNIX and Linux.

I know it could be written in C, but I am looking for something more RAD
like PHP, Python, or Ruby that has database routines that are like SQL
command line access to get and put data into and out of the database tables
and fields.

This is a project to port some packages from UNIX to Linux and make them
easier to maintain and faster to develop add-ons in the future.
