I have tried to connect a Linux Suse 9 system with one running Windows XP, mainly to share a printer. Both systems have ethernet cards which are normally used for internet connections. I replaced the internet connections with a crossover LAN cable. I configured XP for file and printer sharing using a workgroup. When I run Yast, it doesn't see the workgroup on the network nor can I configure a printer  I can ping the two machines from each other so the physical connection is good.

When I reconnected the systems to the internet, the internet connection on the Linux system no longer works. I can ping the router which the internet connection goes through. .
