This would be a bad idea for several reasons. The last thing we need is
to needlessly complicate the install process by using a VM that is beta
quality, at best. Also it will taint their experience because when the
VM breaks something they will blame it on Linux. If the VM runs slowly,
they will think Linux runs slow.
If they bring their own copy of VMWare, that's no problem. It works
well, and supports Linux. But if they want to try Linux without altering
their Windows install, the best option is to simply hand them a Knoppix
CD.
Also, we don't wipe their drives anyway. If they want to dual-boot, we
simply pop in a Knoppix disc and resize the ntfs/fat partition. I've
done this a couple of times before, works like a charm. (Although its
definately good policy to warn them to backup any important data
beforehand!)
As to the other two you mention, I think Bochs is dead or at least
smells really funky. Last release was almost a year ago. And I don't
think Xen does what you think it does.
