So I'm driving home after tonight's meet, and I remembered that there IS
a way to visualize a selection that has been feathered. Quick Mask
(shift-Q).
Make a selection and feather it a bunch. Hit Shift-Q, and now you can
see the feather's effect.
Even cooler, while Quick Mask is toggled on, you can "paint" directly on
the selection with white (adds selection) and black (removes selection).
Even cooler yet, you can completely treat the selection as an image and
apply filters.
