Since I just returned this one, important piece of info on the 9550SX,
iit is a PCI-X card, not PCI. 8( Motherboard I have does not have
PCI-X so that was an oops. Newegg was understanding... 8) Had to get
the 9500.

x3 on the 3ware cards, but make sure you get the 9550SX series.
That series supports SATA II features like NCQ, have a reasonable
amount
of memory (ie 128MB+) for write caching and an optional BBU for safe
write caching. The older cards (ie the 8500 series) aren't nearly as
nice for hardware RAID5.
BTW I still recommend the LSI Logic SATA RAID card - it uses the same
driver and management utilities as their SCSI RAID cards, which is a
bonus for me since I can use the same familiar tools that I have on my
SCSI-based servers ;)
