I've been using Xubuntu for a little while now, and no problems other 
than I haven't figured out how to rearrange the main menu yet.  :P  It's 
the best I've used for out-of-the-box "just works"-iness.  The apt tools 
are slick.  It surprises me that you're having media problems.
