USB hard drives look like any standard scsi drive, I use one regularly to
transport large amounts of ISO's and video between sites for clients.
I'm a big fan of Disk-Based backups, due to the greater reliability(As
long as the machine is never powered down)
The best-case scenario would be to have a machine with mirrored drives to
backup to, and then back that machine up to another media Tape/DVD for
offsite storage.
Simple backup = Machine with large hard drive, automated rsync to sync your
main workstation to the backup machine.
I am working with a client that is going to do offsite backups of
user-data (My Documents/etc....) using rsync/bacula/others depending on
the client. I'll forward the experiences with different schemes.
