'cp -v' will do verbose on the copy, but the I/O error would be something
else, not necessarily the cp command. It could be the ide cdrom module,
or the fstype module (iso9660, etc).
1. Is the CD a Burned CD-R? And how old is the CD?
Some burned CD media will only last 2 to 5 years according to a recent
IBM research article.
2. Can you try to read the disc, and copy the file in another optical
drive on another system?
It is possible that the drive may not in it's prime anymore.
